All events are in Brooklyn unless noted and most are free. If you can’t drink legally you might be allowed in or able to eat there.
Thursday, September 22: Nickodemus and friends, Live at the Archway, 6 pm, underneath the Manhattan Bridge Park. Water Street and Pearl Street.
Friday, September 22: Great Cartoons that Weren’t Good Enough” Opening Reception, 6:30-10:30 pm. An exhibit of cartoons rejected from “The New Yorker.” Part of Bushwick Open Studios. Kave Espresso Bar, 1087 Flushing Ave. at Porter Avenue. Jen Kirkman, 8 pm, $25. Comedian, writer, and actress Jen Kirkman (“I’m Gonna Die Alone (And I Feel Fine)”) performs a night of comedy. Bell House, 149 Seventh St. at Third Avenue. NY Art Book Fair, with more than 370 book dealers, antiquarians, artists, and independent publishers — heralding from nearly twenty states and around thirty countries for buying and selling. Also approximately thirty individual events and a two-day conference on matters having to do with underground publishing, community organizing, and “guerrilla collecting.” One event to look out for is a screening on Friday, at three in the afternoon, of video works by the choreographer Simone Forti in celebration of On An Iron Post, a new book about her to be released by Hesse Press in October.
