All events are in Brooklyn unless noted and most are free. Many are bars so check if under age. If you can’t drink you might be able to eat there.

Saturday, June 17: Mermaid Parade, see last posting. The Champ Opening Reception, 6-9 pm.  Photojournalist Michael Gaffney shares his images from 1977, when he was Muhammed Ali’s personal photographer. Richard Beavers Gallery, 408 Marcus Garvey Blvd. between Halsey and Macon Streets. Starlight Backyard Comedy, 8:30 pm, 21+. Free comedy and free pizza under the stars. With Frank Conniff, Myq Kaplan, Kerry Coddett, 243 Irving Ave. between Greene Avenue and Bleecker Street, Manhattan. RSVP.  The Art of Spider-Man, 11 am, free to $15. The largest collection of original Spidey pages ever displayed. Society of Illustrators, 128 East 63rd Street (between Park and Lexington Avenues), Manhattan.

Sunday, June 18: Art Island Outpost, Saturdays and Sundays, 11 am to 3 pm until Sept. 30. Make art during the summer with hands-on art making workshops and art-viewing experiences, utilizing found objects and traditional mediums. This is a space to invent, adapt, and transform your relationship to art and the art making process. Hosted by the Children’s Museum of the Arts. Governors Island in the NY Harbor, take the ferry by the Staten Island Ferry in Manhattan. Egg Rolls, Egg Creams, & Empanadas Festival, 12 pm. The Lower East Side tours goes in the historic Eldridge Street Synagogue, which houses the Museum at Eldridge Street, visitors can learn how to make kreplach, dumplings, and empanadas through interactive food demos, and see examples of Chinese, Jewish, and Puerto Rican folk arts and how they’re crafted. Additional entertainment includes musical performances by groups like the Chinatown Senior Center Orchestra, games of mah-jongg, and opportunities to try out traditional arts and crafts.
