Wednesday to Friday events

All events are in Brooklyn unless noted and most are free. If it sounds too good, then check with the venue. Many are bars so check if under age. If you can’t drink you might be able to eat there.

Marine Park Sports Courts. Come to the park to check out the newly renovated bocce, basketball, tennis, and handball courts. New is the weight machines bolted to the ground. Also there are cricket fields, and baseball diamonds, to name but a few. The park also contains multiple playgrounds, bicycle greenways, and a launch and landing site for canoes and kayaks at Gerritsen inlet. Avenue U to Filmore Ave.  from Stewart Street to E. 33 St. It is near Kings Plaza.

Wednesday, May 31: Aunty Donna, 8 pm, $30. The award-winning Australian comedy trio performs. Bell House, 149 Seventh St. at Third Avenue. Michael Ruhlman in conversation with Michael Moss. Join Ruhlman at the book launch for “Grocery: The Buying and Selling of Food in America,” 7-9 pm, his new book that explores how supermarkets and the food industry make, market, and sell us our groceries. Thursday, June 1: Arguments & Grievances Comedy Debates, 7:30 pm. A live comedy series and podcast featuring comedians debating outlandish topics and the audience chooses the victor. Pine Box Rock Shop, 12 Grattan St. between Bogart Street and Morgan Avenue. Everybody Tango, Thursdays in June and July, 6:30-8:30 pm. Enjoy Argentine Tango with an introductory lesson, music, and dancing in the open air led by Strictly Tango NYC. Lessons at 6:45 and 7:45 pm. Pier @ 125th and Marginal Sts, Manhattan. Jazz at Pier 84, 7 pm every 1st Thursday in June, July & August this summer with fantastic musicians from the Jazz Foundation of America. Pier 84 at West 44th St, Manhattan.

Several Days: Bell 8, $5 $20 suggested donation, Thursdays, 4-8 pm, Saturdays, 1-5 pm to Saturday, July 1.  A meditative, immersive installation named after a navigational buoy in Long Island Sound. This “sea ‘scape” uses music and visuals to inspire the sense of expansion and bliss one has afloat. Waterfront Museum Barge, 290 Conover St. near Reed Street. Drones: Is the Sky the Limit? See Sunday, May 14’s description, Wednesday and Friday. Brooklyn Film Festival, $15, with 122 narrative, documentary, animated, short, and experimental films, with screenings at the Wythe Hotel and all over Williamsburg. Friday, June 2: Multi-Cultural Show at PS 299, 5 pm, $4 ($3 kids). This annual festival celebrates Brooklyn diversity and explores other cultures through dance and music. PS 299 Thomas Warren Field School, 88 Woodbine St. Call 646-221-2282 to reserve seats.
