According to radio host Michael Kay Charles Oakley was drinking at the MSG bar before entering to watch the game. Knicks owner James Dolan is a recovering alcoholic and said Oakley needs help yet we do not know there is proof to smear him. MSG head of security was fired. Oakley said security watches him when he is there and followed to the bathroom. Oakley was known as a luch pail player who was an enforcer who played hard and dove on the floor for loose balls.
Another reporter said past Knicks President Donny Walsh offered Oakley a job and Oakley agreed. He twice then called him to meet to define the role and never got a return call. Three Knicks who played with Oakley got jobs with MSG are John Starks, Larry Johnson and Alan Houston. One of them in the past gave Oakley good seats as he could not get free ones from the Garden. Oakley tried to shake Dolan’s hand and Dolan refused and also would never give him a meeting. Other Knicks are honored on special reunion nights but not him. At the game he started bashing Dolan to reporters. He once said he would poison his food. After the ejection game MSG post game did not cover it.
It was a bad week for the Knicks with 3 losses to bad teams or a team with key players missing. Knick’s President Phil Jackson tried to talk to Oakley once arrested. He rarely talks to the press and even after big issues such as Derrick Rose going AWOL. Phil Jackson is very arrogant to the press and insults other coaches. GM Mills talks even less to the press. In a few days Oakley will give a press conference. He has said on the Steven A. Smith Show he was not offensive and singling out Dolan. Jackson has been sniping at Carmelo Anthony and that may deter free agents from coming here.
Phil Jackson was a player years ago and I was waiting outside his locker room for autographs. I knew a few Knicks. Jackson looked at me as if to say, do I want his autograph and I shook my head no.
