New semester, citywide weekday events

Fairway Supermarket opened in the Georgetown Shopping Mall at Ralph Ave and L. Burger King opened in part of the Bolla gas station on Knapp Street and Gerritsen Avenue by Ave U. Probably in their other stations. In the mini session there are few college events.

Thursday: The Moth Story Slam, 8 pm, $10. The Moth Story SLAMs are story telling competitions where the stage is open to any and all with a story to tell on the evening’s theme, Bell House, 149 Seventh St. at Third Avenue.
Friday: 50 First Jokes, 8 pm, $15. A mixture of established NYC comedians along with the best and brightest up-and-comers share the stage, Bell House, 149 Seventh St. at Third Avenue.

On May 8, 2010, 88-year-old actress Betty White became the oldest person ever to host Saturday Night Live. White’s hosting gig came about, in part, after hundreds of thousands of her fans signed onto a Facebook campaign rallying for it. As SNL’s eldest host, White earned glowing reviews, and the show, which featured musical guest Jay-Z, drew its highest ratings in 18 months. The octogenarian actress later won the seventh Emmy Award of her career for her SNL appearance.
