Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th around the world. There is a joke that says something about Pi being squared but pies are round.  The number pi is a mathematical constant that is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, and is approximately equal to 3.14159. The number is celebrated on Pi Day which is today, March 14. Being an irrational number, pi cannot be expressed exactly as a fraction (equivalently, its decimal representation never ends and never settles into a permanent repeating pattern). Because its definition relates to the circle, pi is found in many formulae in trigonometry and geometry, especially those concerning circles, ellipses or spheres. Attempts to memorize the value of pi with increasing precision have led to records of over 67,000 digits.

On March 14, 1900 Congress ratified the Gold Standard Act.
