Sunday: American Revolutionary War event with the. Urban Park Rangers specialize in interpretation of historic turning points, both natural and manmade, in our city’s long history. On this walking tour learn about the battles, heroes, and British Occupation of New York during the American Revolutionary War. Nature Center in Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx 1:00 p.m.
Funky Turns 40: Black Character Revolution at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. For the first half of the 20th century, Hollywood’s animators followed the stereotypes of the time when drawing black characters. This changed in the late 1960s and early 1970s with Saturday morning cartoons portraying black animated characters in a more positive manner. The Intrepid’s annual Kids Week celebrates sports, science, theater, music and history on board the World War II aircraft carrier. Program highlights include performances by Broadway talent, live-animal shows and hands-on science workshops on robotics and 3-D printing.
